Fourie du Preez out for six months

The Springbok will be out of commission due to an ankle injury

Springbok International Fourie du Preez, says the news of him being out for the remainder of the year, due to an ankle surgery, has come as a tough blow.

The Suntory Sungoliath man underwent surgery on Thursday in Pretoria to repair damage to his ankle, but woke up to find out that more damage than initially was expected was discovered.

The news meant that a screw was placed into his ankle and, as a result, meant his three month rehabilitation period turned into a six month stint.

“It’s a very tough blow for me,” Du Preez told supersport.com from his hospital bed.

“I was very disappointed when I woke up from the operation and they told me, but that is the way it goes. It’s a long tough road back and it will take some time, but I will remain positive.”

Du Preez will miss out on the Castle Lager Rugby Championship as well as the November tour for the Springboks when they take on Ireland, England, Italy and Wales.
