Amajimbos’ clean out Botswana

Under-17's give one hope for the future

The South African Under-17 team defeated Botswana 2-0 in a practice match played at the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks Stadium in Mogoditshane Thursday afternoon.

The fixture was the first of two matches scheduled for the Amajimbos’ preparation for the crucial 2015 African Youth Championships (AYC) qualifier against Tanzania later this month.

The second match, also set to be played in Bostwana, will take place on Sunday, 6 July at the Molepolle Stadium.

South Africa got off to the brighter of starts in the first half and they looked far from a team that was debuting for the first time in 2014.

The deadlock was broken in the 14th minute when striker Vuyo Mkatshana got onto the end of a cross as they walked into the break leading.

Botswana came out a much more convincing team at the restart and almost found an equaliser in the 65th minute, but were let off lucky when Malgase again ballooned his shot.

Despite the visitors having had to endure a load of pressure, they doubled their lead five minutes from the final whistle with a well-taken free-kick by defender Kananelo Motsoeneng.
