Johnson needs new assistant coach

SuperSport United's Kwanele Kopo goes back to his youth (team).

SuperSport United are in the hunt to find new assistant coach to support Cavin Johnson after Kwanele Kopo moved back to youth academy.

Kopo, who was named as Cavin Johnson’s right-hand man ahead of the 2013/2014 Premier Soccer League season, confirmed the news on Thursday.

“We were talking about a year ago, before I became assistant coach, about another technical position in the club, so we’ve gone back to those discussions,” Kopo told AfricanFootball.com

“I will now be involved with the whole club’s technical structure, youth and senior team responsibilities, but not full time coaching.”

A club official added that the move will be a ‘boost for the youth academy’.

Reports suggest Willem Jackson, who worked with Johnson at Platinum Stars, could link up with his former colleague at Matsatsantsa.

Kopo worked as an assistant manager alongside the late Thomas Madigage and when Pitso Mosimane coached SuperSport.

Kopo will now most likely oversee proceedings at the youth team, a position he held before being bumped up to assistant manager in August last year.
