Clever Boys awaiting Cape Town Challenge

Bidvest Wits have a positive outlook ahead of the Cape Town Challenge

Bidvest Wits head of Academy Affairs, Glen Salmon, says the club is looking forward to playing in a quality pre-season event in this year’s Cape Town Challenge later this month.

The tournament, which will debut from July 25-27, will see defending league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as Bidvest Wits, PSL returnees Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town participate against each other.

Bidvest Wits are expected to arrive in the Mother City at the start of the second week of July where they will hold their preseason camp ahead of the 2014/15 Absa Premiership campaign.

“On behalf of Gavin Hunt and Bidvest Wits we are extremely happy to be invited to the Cape Town Challenge,” said Salmon on Wednesday.

“To play quality preseason tournaments is not always easy. This is fantastic timing and it is well thought out.

“The club is happy to come here to this beautiful city. Football lives amongst the people here and we are expecting good support and a good environment to play in.”

Salmon, who runs the youth sector at Sturrock Park, says that none of his youth team players will be given a run out in the challenge set to be held at Athlone.

“Our youngsters will be in Denmark touring Brondby. There might be one or two trialists but unfortunately the Under-19 boys won’t be down.

“It is something we will look into for the future,” concluded the 36-year-old.
