Ritchie likely to leave Prague

Talks of former Kaizer Chiefs defender leaving Czech club.

Former Kaizer Chiefs left back Keegan Ritchie looks set to exit Slavia Prague despite only being the Czech Republic for a shirt stint.

Media reports in the Czech Republic are saying that Ritchie has already been given the boot, but the club’s sporting director Karol Kisel recently showed a glimmer of hope, saying: “Keegan Ritchie will probably leave, but it is not yet definite.”

The changes follow the introduction of a new coach, Miroslav Beránek, which has seen a clearing out of playing staff at the cash-strapped club.

According to Kick Off, Ritchie has not been handed his clearance yet and should he leave Slavia, will be seeking to stay in Europe with a number of options already being considered.

The 23-year-old from Gauteng only joined the club from Amakhosi in January. He initially found it tough to adapt but then found a regular spot under former coach and ally Alex Pastoor, who has since left to act as assistant coach under Marco van Basten at AZ Alkmaar in his native Netherlands.

But Ritchie got injured in early April and then missed the rest of the season as Slavia survived relegation only on the final day.

Ritchie signed for Chiefs in 2011 from Moroka Swallows where he had shown lots of promise. At Naturena he did not set the scene alight and was a surprise transfer to Slavia.
