Zuma not ready to retire yet

Veteran not contemplating retiring just yet.

One of South Africa’s best ever European exports, Sibusiso Zuma, is due to make a decision about his career future and a team he will join for the upcoming season.

‘Zuma the Puma’ – as he was fondly known during his successful spells in Denmark and Germany – will turn 39 on June 23 and is not contemplating retiring just yet.

The man who began his career at humble KZN outfit African Wanderers says: “I’ve been on holiday so I haven’t made a decision regarding which team to join,” he told Kick Off.

“But my family is here in Joburg and they want to remain here so I’ve decided that I won’t be moving away.”

After starring for African Wanderers, he was signed by Orlando Pirates and from there moved to FC Copenhagen. Upon his return to South Africa several seasons later, he played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Vasco da Gama and SuperSport United.

Zuma’s former teammate and friend Siyabonga Nomvete – who also began his career with Zuma at Wanderers in Durban – is another evergreen former Bafana Bafana star who is still active in the top-flight.

Nomvete is still on the books of Moroka Swallows and looks set to stay at the Dube Birds for the new season.
