Neal, the national women’s champ continued her outstanding form when she beat Susan Nel from Rustenburg Impala in the final at the Sables Masters Championship held at Discovery Bowling Club.

This year’s senior women’s champ is none other than Mabs Rees from Ruimsig Bowling Club who got the better of Anette de Wet from Rustenburg Impala in the final.

As for the men, the 2014 National Men’s Champ, Morgan Muvhango from Discovery Bowling Club also nearly added his second big title of the year but had to bow to Theuns Fraser from Leases in the men’s open final.

Looking at the senior men, Richard Miller from Discovery Bowling Club used home soil to his advantage by beating Johnny Lomas from Rustenburg Impala in the final.

President of the Sables Bowling Association, Dave Parker thanked the Players Association president Morné du Plessis and Vice President Gaylyn Bedford-Owen who together with their committee organised a superbly run tournament.

“A special word of thanks to Perfect Delivery for their sponsorship and to Discovery Bowling Club for hosting a wonderful event,” Parker said.

The Sables Masters Championship is a prestigious tournament where 12 open men and 12 open women from within the Sables district are invited each year to play.

The format of the tournament consists of two sections of six players each (men and women separated), playing round robin within the section to determine the section winner. Matches are played over two days with the two section winners up against one another in the final late Sunday afternoon.

“Some spectacular bowls was played throughout the entire weekend with top bowlers participating for the title of 2014 Sables Masters Champion,” Sables spokesperson, Graeme Morton said.

“The greens were fantastic and a word of thanks was forwarded to the Discovery greenkeepers Morgan and Johnson Loabile for all their hard work in preparing the surfaces,” Morton added.
