Anderson crushes Evans to advance at Queens

South African gets the better of Britain's number two.

South African Kevin Anderson registered a comprehensive straight-sets victory over British number two Dan Evans in London to advance in the Queen’s Club Aegon Championship.

Evans sneaked past Jurgen Melzer in a three-set first-round upset on Monday, but he was no match for the seventh seed.

Anderson’s big serve caused Evans problems throughout, with the world number 18 advancing to the third round 6-2, 6-3.

The 28-year-old climbed two places to 18th in the latest ATP World Tour singles rankings, released at the start of the week.

He subsequently managed to equal his highest position ever in the World ranking, which he obtained last March, before slipping back down to 19th and 20th over the course of the last few months.

Anderson cruised to a fourth appearance in a grand slam fourth round at last week’s French Open, before losing out to 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 against Spain’s David Ferrer.
