Steyn denies bad blood with Boks

"My relationship with management and teammates is very good": Steyn.

Frans Steyn has denied reports suggesting that there is some bad blood between him and his Springbok teammates as well as the management.

The 27-year-old shocked the South African camp just days after participating in the victory over the World XV by requesting to be withdrawn for the remainder of the Castle Lager tour.

In the official press release sent out by SARU, Steyn was quoted as voicing a healthy relationship with everyone in the camp but wanted to take time out to consider his international future.

It also went on to stress that Steyn wasn’t retiring from the international arena, but rather taking a break.

“The environment in the Springbok squad is fantastic and I would like to state categorically that my relationship with Heyneke Meyer, the rest of the management and my teammates is very good,” said Steyn in the statement.

His withdrawal is a significant knock to Meyer’s preparations for the remainder of the Series, as his appearance as the Number 12 in Saturday’s game against the World XV in Cape Town showed he is first choice for that position.
