Khune excited for Carling Black Label

"It will be an excellent test for the new season": Khune.

Kaizer Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune says he is looking forward to playing in this year’s Carling Black Label Cup on July 26, claiming it will be an ‘excellent test’ for the new season.

The 26-year-old, who will participating in his fourth edition of the Carling Black Label Cup, will take on Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in an encounter that will mark as a curtain raiser to the 2014/15 Absa Premiership season.

“It is a great campaign, it is something unique in the world of football and we should be proud to be leading the way in South Africa,” he said in a statement.

“The players get really excited by it, they all hope to play and keep a close eye on the voting. Everybody wants to be involved, whether it is from the starting XI or the bench, so it is a great occasion. The stadium is always full as well, which creates an exciting atmosphere.

“It comes at a crucial point in our pre-season, so it will be a really good test of where we are in our preparations for the new campaign.

“In terms of our fitness levels and work with the ball, it will be an excellent test because whichever players are selected for Orlando Pirates, it will be a very good team.”

Khune has won just one of the three fixtures he has played in, losing his first two outings.
