Renard linked to Bafana job

Renard most likely to succeed Igesund as Bafana Bafana’s head coach.

Former Zambia coach Herve Renard is reportedly on the short list to succeed Gordon Igesund as Bafana Bafana’s head coach.

The position of the national team’s head coach will become vacant at the end of July after SAFA revealed to the public that they will not be renewing Igesund’s contract.

It has thus spurred on speculation over who will take over the Bafana bench and Renard, who recently broke his ties with FC Sochaux, has been put on the assumed shortlist.

According to several Zambia media houses, Renard is the perfect candidate to be trusted with the job after he dramatically lead the Chipolopolo to lift the 2012 African Cup of Nations trophy.

Should he come on board, Renard’s first assignment would be to ensure South Africa’s safe passage to the 2015 AFCON in Morocco – a mandate Igesund failed to do for the previous edition of the competition.

Other names that have been bandied about are those of Carlos Quieroz and Stephen Keshi, who are both off to the World Cup with Iran and Nigeria respectively.
