Patosi: I had a good combination with Igesund

Player disappointed after Igesund's contract was not renewed.

One of the newer faces in the Bafana Bafana squad, Ayanda Patosi, has signalled his disappointment after coach Gordon Igesund’s contract was not renewed.

South African Football’s governing body, SAFA, took the decision not to renew Igesund’s contract as national team coach on Monday and Belgium-based Patosi, who scored his first international goal against Australia last week, is surprised.

The 21-year-old Lokeren midfielder, who came out of the African Soccer Development (ASD) in Cape Town, had the following to say: “For me, the coach we had, Gordon Igesund, I like him. He gave me the chance to play for Bafana Bafana,” Patosi told Kick Off.

“So I was working good with him, we had a good combination, so I can say he was good for the country and I don’t know what the decision … I’m not into the decisions, what they do with the country, but personally I liked Gordon Igesund. He gave me the chance to play and shine for the country.”

The question that Patosi and other players who just recently came into the squad will have going forward, is whether they will still be called up?

“We just have to stay professional, these things happen in the game,” Patosi says.

“The next incoming coach, he’s going to come and I’m just going to do my job and stay professional and see how things go.”
