Charne (18) aims to become the best figure model

Charné du Toit explains why she picks fish above slap chips.

Despite no background or achievements as yet in the figure modelling business, young Charné du Toit (18) from Hoërskool Florida aims to be the next big name.

Currently preparing for a competition to be held this September; Charné is one of Crossfit Hua’s youngest and up-and-coming stars. Taken under the wing of regular bodybuilding guru George Herwill, her purpose for spending an hour a day in the gym and working as hard as she does is to dominate the podium as fitness and figure model one day.

Charné explains why she has chosen building muscle rather than strutting the catwalk.

“I’ve always had a passion for looking good; I was just never sure how to look good. My father began to take his health seriously in 2010 and so he introduced me to the lifestyle. This lifestyle makes you a fitter and stronger person and you feel great when you look in the mirror.”

Currently tipping the scale at 59kg, Charné was not shy to mention that she had lost 9kg since she started living her passion.

“To be confident when walking on the beach or even walking in the mall is my motivation for wanting to look good. My advice to girls/ women would be that since having an average body is easy, do something that will show people you are stronger than that.”

She believes a good workout of an hour a day would be enough to look good, and of course one should eat healthily. In terms of using weights in the gym, Charné reckons, “It all depends on your technique. If you can lift heavy weights and still maintain the right technique, it’s all good. Even if you lift weights quickly, it’s all about having the correct technique.”

Asked how tough it is to stay motivated and follow a strict diet Charné replies, “To stay on a strict diet is probably the hardest thing. It is very hard to stay motivated especially if you are surrounded by people who do not have the same interests as you. They don’t understand why you rather would eat fish than a peanut butter sandwich. To be honest, eating healthily while you smell slap chips is hard.”

“I believe a woman should look after herself from a young age. It is only to your benefit that the sooner you get into the habit of healthy living and adapting to the lifestyle, the better.

“To stay fit and have a balanced lifestyle is an absolute yes. One should party, social, train and eat but all with discipline. A big no no from me is to skip or lay back when training. Everyone needs a break but make sure the break has a limit.”
