Soccer clubs unite

ROODEPOORT - Soccer players showed off talent and skill at the Junior League festival at Panorama Soccer Club

Panorama Soccer Club played host to the UMBRO Junior League Festival that took place from 21 to 23 March.

The home team were runners-up in the U12 category, narrowly beaten by Turffontein-based Sporting Football Club. Sandton Soccer Club was the unbeaten team in the U13 category. Bidvest Wits Soccer Club snapped up first place in the U15 category, and Bedfordview’s Corinthians took home the prize in the U17 category.

Discovery Health’s head of marketing, Jacqui Swart, a total of 53 teams took part over the weekend and over 2000 spectators came to show their support.

“The ages ranged from U12 teams to the older and more experienced U17 groups. All of the prizes were provided by UMBRO in the form of merchandise.”

The competition was off to a great start as the U12 teams started with their play-offs on 21 March.

Panorama Soccer Club’s Jabulani Radebe noted that the tournament has grown tremendously over the last two years.

“The young talent surprised me as some of these players show skill that can easily match those of some of the young Bafana Bafana players and I see a great future for some of these players.” Swart added, “
