APWA put up great show in Eastern Cape

EC again welcomes wrestlers for the first time in over 20 years.

This past December and for the first time in over 20 years, Queenstown in the Eastern Cape was home again to the African Punishment Wrestling Association (APWA).

It was the final show outside of Roodepoort for 2013, and locals allegedly were treated to the best professional wrestling in South Africa. Wrestling stars who featured were The Lion of Africa Ananzi, Mr Wrestling, Two Face, Loudmouth, KO and the father/son Frenchmen, Thierry and Zizou Middoux to name a few.

The wrestlers then returned back home on 18 December to entertain at the Danie van Zyl Recreation Centre. The first match-up between Loudmouth and Johnny Sabin saw Loudmouth win through disqualification after the Mexican, El Mascarado interfered. It is expected that Loudmouth and El Mascarado will battle in the next event.

The next match was a triple threat between Dragon Boy, TJ and Africa. In this fast-paced, action-packed match-up it was Dragon Boy who came out on top.

The third match saw the WWP All-Africa Championship up for grabs between Mr Wrestling and Renegade. Considering both are bikers, whoever came out as the victor would drive-off with his bike. Physically outmatched, Renegade resorted to dirty tricks and manipulation of the referee to try and get the win, but in the end he had to tap out to Mr Wrestling who executed a devastating arm bar.

Following the interval, the MC for the evening, Jason Steele was attacked with a baseball bat by the crazy Two Face while addressing the crowd. With referee Muhammed right on the spot, Two Face tried to get a cheap victory but the power of Jason Steele would not be denied and Two Face was on the receiving end of a thunderous power bomb.

The second last match up featured KO against Dirty Jackson. Both are youngsters considered to have bright futures in the wrestling industry.

The main event pitted the APWA Heavyweight Champion Steve Eden and the party sensation Zizou Midoux against his father Thierry Midoux and Ananzi.

Ananzi who had a change in personality since November 2013 refused to sign autographs and speak to fans. All four men gave it their all to get the victory, but it was Zizou and Steve Eden who came out on top in the end.

If you want to have the APWA entertain you, get them to your event, school or bazaar by contacting Ananzi on 082 269 8325.

The next event will be held on Saturday 25 January.
