Judoka wreak havoc in PE

… returning home with more than 50 medals.

The majority of judoka representing the Western Judo Association did the KJK Judo Club Durban Deep proud returning home with more than 50 medals after competing in the recently held SA Judo Championships.

Port Elizabeth, the host city of the 2013 SA Judo Championships will never be the same again after local judoka scooped 25 gold, 26 silver and five bronze medals.

Results are as follows:

Individual Fighting:

• Gold: Jonathan Ackerman, Shalyn van den Heever, Ashley Stewart, Tazmin Rossouw, Kristen Wahl, Ronaldo Rossouw, Alrich Rust, Faghan Roberts and Harm Venter

• Silver: Nicole Stewart, Tian Vorster, Neil Aikman, Stephanos Roditus and Clarissa Prinsloo (2)

• Bronze: Ryan Erasmus, Jaco Erasmus, Tarise Le Roux, Zander Combrink and Jacques Rossouw (Masters)

Kata:

• Gold: Garren Diab and Raydon Diab, Louis Truter and Marcel Struwig (2), Gerhard Schultz and Ofentse Snijder, Harm Venter and Gerhard Schultz, Dewald Schultz and Alrich Rust, Reinhardt Kapp and Quinton Kapp, Katja Bruwer and Danica Bruwer

Team Events:

• Gold: Boys U9 “A” Team

• Silver: Western United Girls U/10 “A” Team, group 3 “A” Team.

Louw Schultz, Graeme Melly, Louis Truter, Danica Bruwer and Katja Bruwer built on their exceptional performance during the African Senior Kata and Kata World Championships in April in Mozambique. Graeme and Louis performed an excellent nage no kata, finishing in fourth place whereas Louw and Graeme took bronze with their kime no kata. Head coach Katja, who was nominated by Judo SA to attend a judo camp in Germany at the beginning of August, as well as Danica won a bronze medal with their katame no kata.

Katja, Danica Bruwer, Graeme Melly and Louw Schultz have been rewarded for their outstanding performances this year and will represent South Africa at the World Kata Championships to be held in Japan during October 2013.
