‘Everything will come right in the end’

Margaret Britz from Roodepoort writes:

As an avid reader of your column, I have wanted to write to you since you became Editor of Roodepoort Record/ Northsider. The reason being that your column is so down to earth and has really put a sparkle into the newspaper, for me anyway. You always write such interesting articles and also include your family, which makes you a mum, just like anyone else, and you cater for people of all ages (I am 86 years old). I love your column so much so that it’s always the first thing I look for.

I had a rather upsetting day on Wednesday, 14 October as I went to renew my driver’s licence at Roodepoort office. Firstly, I went to a place that I hadn’t a clue where it was (in itself a rather harrowing experience) only to be turned away and told that because I am a senior I must go to Florida Licensing office. On the website it says seniors may go Wednesdays and get preferential treatment …

The woman at the gate told me she had been told ‘there should be no seniors today, they must go to Florida ‘ – that was her orders! Fortunately, I had my atlas with me and was able to find the place, but not knowing the exact gate I wanted I hesitated and was surrounded by ‘parking guards or whoever’ (my partner was with me ). My window was open as I was asking if this was the correct gate, suddenly my chain was snatched off my neck by one of them, which was so upsetting!

However, I went through the correct gate, managed to find the last parking spot and once I got to the information person, I was told to just get in the line with everyone else, there was no seniors queue once again. I might say that there were about 100 people waiting. By then, having wasted time and lost a necklace I was fed up, so I found my way home again without having any success.

Thank you for listening, and carry on your good work. Everything will come right in the end I am sure, for all of us.
