They should be taken to task

Simon Carter from Roodepoort writes:

There is an empty plot on Skinner Street that backs onto two properties, including ours. It was bought by a developer about two years [ago] to build townhouses.

It was recently tidied up with heavy equipment. There are now piles of branches, grass etc. The workers are setting fires to burn them. There are high winds and the fire could easily jump the fence and burn down our garden. The neighbour’s buildings are up against the wall.

They run the risk of their house being burned down. Our house is full of thick, acrid smoke. My 70-year-old mother and 91-year-old grandmother are battling with chest infections and this is causing undue breathing distress; not to mention stinking up the house.

My mother shouted at them to stop but she got the usual blank stare and was ignored. This is an illegal practice. Does someone have to die or lose their property before it’s stopped?

I don’t know who the developer is but they should be taken to task by the police.
