Disabled parking is for the disabled

WC de Koker from Roodepoort writes:

As a disabled person, I have always felt the sting of discrimination and have learned to live with it.

From inaccessible shops to uncooperative staff, shopping has always been a challenge, but a new and completely unexpected menace has reared its head in the last couple of years … senior citizens.

I’m not talking about a granny struggling with a walker, I’m talking about 65-year-old couples just done with their gym sessions parking in disabled parking because they are old. Disabled parking is there for the disabled, not a few retirees who don’t want their new BMW scratched.

Few people understand the difficulties of getting a wheelchair next to your car when you park in a normal parking space. Disabled parking is wider for a reason – so that wheelchairs fit, not so that you can park easier.

Please retirees, think of the people whose spot you so selfishly claim while running into the shop. We don’t want to park there. We have to.
