Do the honourable thing – stop corruption

Ronell from Florida writes:

With reference to the article in Roodepoort Record dated 11 November Scamsters active outside licensing office.

I went to the Licensing Department on 10 November and while still in my vehicle, wanting to cross the road to park in the official Licensing Department’s parking lot, I was approached by a young man wanting to help me. The more I told him that I’m okay and don’t need his help, the more he insisted on helping me.

My window was open about 20cm, and he pushed his hand through to try and steal my cellphone that was lying between my legs on the seat. I had my headset on and he pulled the cord. I pulled it back but unfortunately he got away with the headset.

He was so casual about it. At first he did not even run away. He took a casual walk across the road and started to run only when he saw me making a U-turn in his direction.

By now we are all aware that the youngsters standing outside the Licensing Office are not employees of the Department, but are scamming people out of their money, or working with officials inside for a few bucks. The only way we are going to stop this is if we as citizens ignore them and apply for our licences the legal way. The longer people keep on using their ‘services’ the longer this will carry on. They definitely pose a danger to us.

I’m hereby challenging the officials of Roodepoort Licensing Department to start doing the honourable thing and stop corruption.

To the Head of this Licensing Office, I would like to challenge you to start doing something positive about this. If you take the lead and take a stand against these people on the pavement, you never know, other branches might follow your lead. You will feel that you have made a difference.
