This letter serves as a warning to all those young folks out there who are unable to find employment with a reputable company. Be careful who you sign up with.

While my granddaughter went through the local newspapers she came across an advert claiming that she would be able to earn around R12 000 a month with this specific company. This ad was placed in February.

She got employed with them, the same as many other folks. Getting up at 5am every morning, catching a taxi to be there on time and sometimes only returning home after 7pm in the evenings. Her job was to sell pots and dinner services at various shopping malls, some of them as far as Southgate Mall and shopping centres in Pretoria.

After working for six full weeks, she sold nine sets. She was told payday was on the 15th of every month, which is clever. When she received her ‘payslip’ it informed her four of the sales were pending, two had been completed with incorrect ID numbers and two were cancelled while the one sale left over would only be paid in the next month. What a joke! All was not well and they should have informed her of these conditions during the 6-week period. Not a cent reached her pocket. All her travel money every day and her long hours resulted in a huge disappointment, having worked for nothing.

I don’t think there is any loyalty, conciseness or ethical concept left in this country. To me, it is a crying shame.
