For the third time since November we are going through a strike by Pikitup. We are paying to get our refuse removed once a week, and every month our full payment gets paid. Where does that money go to?

Saturday, 2 April at 11pm a truck came and removed the garbage that was outside. Not having put out all the garbage for fear of it being strewn all over the road, we were still left with 4 weeks garbage.

On Monday, 4 April I put all the garbage in my trailer with the intent of taking it to the main municipal dump in Krugersdorp. Upon arriving there, I was told I need my ID, proof of residence and need to open an account, to dump one trailer load of refuse which I already paid for to be removed. Several neighbours resorted to the same measures.

This is ridiculous. Why do we pay for a service with people who are too lazy to work, and get no return for our payment.

I propose that the municipality take our refuse removal fees off our municipal accounts and the Roodepoort people stand together and refuse the services of Pikitup and get private people to collect our refuse. There are many people who would be too glad for the work.
