The truth of the matter is that family rape is rife and it is our own families that breed rapists.
Mothers, parents and guardians continuously watch their children being sexually exploited and choose silence, in the fear of breaking a broken family, unknowingly breeding rapists.
By allowing perpetrators to go unpunished, defending and protecting them, not confronting them and accepting compensation from the rapist, we are simply saying that their behaviour is acceptable. Giving them the platform to continue with their deviant behaviour.
We as families need to understand that when their actions go unpunished, the perpetrators actions become repetitive and more children are in danger of being sexually exploited.
We need to stand up as families and send clear massages to our sons, brothers, uncles and worst of all, our own fathers and husbands, that such behaviours are unacceptable by reporting the matter and allowing them to take responsibility for their actions.
Although it does not end there, we also need to ensure that the perpetrators acquire counselling after their punishment and partake in rehabilitation programmes, learning victim empathy and ways to control their deviant behaviour.
Unless we do just that, and start protecting our future queens and kings, we are not going anywhere as families, communities and society at large.
It starts with you! Report your perpetrator, inform child protection if you suspect a child is sexually exploited and lets all put our hands and minds together to ensure that South Africa is a better place for all.
