It is not often that I complain but as a citizen paying the salaries of the people who serve me on the Council, I was quite disgusted with the way in which the public is treated.

I had a simple matter that had to be attended to – from the time I arrived until I was served – 2.5 hours. Reason: Out of 10 counters, only two were manned at any time and the public were sitting five rows deep.

Public relations have not been heard of: whilst you are being served, they carry on with their own private conversations with the next cubicle.

When I asked a simple question, the eyes are rolled at me like I am quite the idiot. There is not a manager in site to control the flow of traffic or to see that counters are manned sufficiently.

When I asked the person who helped me why there were so few staff members, I was told that people are entitled to sick leave and leave.

Surely this is a service afforded to the public and should be properly manned at all times. The Council can learn a thing or two from SARS.

One thing I know, as a small business owner I will not have a company if I treat the public the way we are treated by the Council.
