Kind deeds were free

It warms my heart to think that there are still people out there who will walk the extra mile to show that there is some good left in us.

I bought a previously owned car from Herman Nel Motors in Roodepoort on 25 February this year, and traded in my old car as part payment. I was on cloud 9 that evening as my husband and I celebrated my ‘new’ car. The next morning at around 8 a.m., I was suddenly brought down to earth again by a telephone call from the dealer, Julius Eitner, informing me that the police had arrived at his premises with someone claiming that my old car had actually belonged to him.

Shortly thereafter, eight policemen descended at my house, accompanied by the ‘claimant’ as well as the dealer and the salesperson who had sold me my ‘new’ car. I was interrogated and made to feel like a criminal, much to my horror, but was so glad that I had kept all the documents pertaining to my ownership of the old car.

I promptly produced all relevant documents, but felt nonetheless humiliated and outraged at the manner in which the police almost doubted me. Julius, the dealer, handled the situation in a very humane fashion, and showed me compassion, kindness and support throughout the terrible ordeal.

Needless to say, the ‘claimant’ turned out to be fraudulent. Julius came to my house that same evening to offer a personal apology for this unfortunate event, and my husband and I felt deeply moved by this gesture.

Although one usually buys a previously owned car ‘voetstoets’, there were a few minor things which were faulty with my ‘new’ car, and Julius had these repaired at his own cost too – all these kind deeds were not part of the sale, and it’s so good to know that Herman Nel Motors went that extra mile to offer such excellent after sales service to that extent ! It made me feel that it was not like just another car being sold to another client, but rather another client buying that car; that very professional touch is seldom seen nowadays.

I was not another number, I was being looked after like a human being and made to feel happy. I know where my next car will be coming from.
