I am stunned by the attitude of many of the parents who send their children to the illegal school on Mulder Street (Day Spring Cambridge).Firstly, they know that the owner has broken many laws and is operating illegally. These citizens cannot criticize corruption in our country when they knowingly support this defiance of the laws of our land. I would never enroll my child at an illegal school,

with an owner who has no regard for the laws of South Africa and the by-laws of our city. Secondly, these parents seem to think they have a right to use our visitors parking as their school drop off and pick up zone. (I reside across the road in the Merlyn Manor residential complex.) They have an attitude of entitlement, without stopping to think that the flats are private residences.

There is chaos every morning as they block our entrance and abuse our visitors parking (they are not visiting anyone in the Merlyn Manor complex so I don’t see why they feel entitled to use our parking). Then just before 2pm every afternoon they use up all our parking outside the complex while waiting for their children. I think the school should have its own parking and drop off zones on their property and parents should make use of the schools facilities (if they have a drop off zone and parking in the school yard?).

It is presumptuous to just take over the parking of Merlyn Manor flats. Many residents of Merlyn Manor flats are now very annoyed and frustrated with all this inconvenience. There is noise, traffic and obstruction (when trying to enter or exit). The point is, these parents do not own flats at Merlyn Manor and are not visiting anyone in the flats, so the parents should not make use of our visitors parking facilities. The school has no arrangement with the flats and we would not be prepared to make any arrangements. They are not welcome to park in front of our homes (the flats). These same parents should reflect on how they would feel if others did this at their own private residences.

Would they like this to occur at their private homes? If the Department of Education has instructed the school to close down, why are they still open? Who enforces the law? I support education of our children, but cannot condone blatant disregard for the law.
