OPINION: A fuss free arm toning exercise

Have you ever played with the soft, flabby bag of skin that hangs from your upper arm while looking in the mirror?

Very few women ever experience the joy of having well-toned arms, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are some ‘quick to do’ daily exercises that will leave your arms looking slim and toned.

Arm circles:

This is a simple exercise that targets the shoulders, back, triceps and biceps.

• Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, arms extended straight out to sides at shoulder height.

• Relax shoulders while maintaining this pose

• Do 20 small backward circles.

• Switch directions; do 20 forward circles.

Shoulder press:

This exercise will work your shoulders and triceps.

• Stand with feet shoulder-width apart

• Straighten your arms out but don’t lock your elbows

• Bringing hands up to be in line with your shoulders

• Ensure the palms of your hands are facing forward

• Now slowly move your arms upward towards the side of your head while keeping your arms straight

• Once your arms are next to your ears pause for five seconds

• Keeping your shoulders relaxed , finally lower your arms back to shoulder height again

• Do 20 reps

Triceps push-back:

This develops the triceps

• Stand with feet shoulder-width apart

• Slightly bend your knees

• Put your arms straight down at your sides

• Your hands palms facing backwards

• Lift arms straight back behind you as far as you can keeping your arms straight (about 2 feet behind you) towards

• Return to sides of your body again

• Do 20 reps

You can add dumbbells to make these exercises even more effective. Record your measurements each week in a small notebook. Within a month, you’re sure to see results.
