NSPCA Operations on Pet Farm case

The NSPCA Operations department responds to West Rand Pet and Bird Farm investigation.

The Roodepoort SPCA Inspectorate visits this establishment (of West Rand Pet and Bird Farm) on a regular basis.

Warnings have been issued and follow-up inspections are conducted to ensure that the owner complies with the Animals Protection Act.

The Society’s Manager and Senior Inspectors held a meeting with the State Prosecutor to discuss the way forward with this case.

A criminal docket is being prepared against the owner of the establishment.

The Inspectors regrettably cannot confiscate all the animals at the establishment as a warrant has not been granted for such action.

The Roodepoort SPCA Inspectors may only remove animals that are in dire need of intervention.

The Inspectorate will continue to monitor this establishment and take action as needed.

It is not illegal to sell live animals and it is the public that creates the demand for these sales.

However, the public can place pressure on these establishments by not supporting them and by directing their complaints to the management of such establishments.

The SPCA works to promote the welfare of and protection of all animals.

We ask that residents consider us in their will and planned giving.
