Pedestrian bridges are better

The JRA did it wrong, says a resident and the community's hands are tied.

Regarding the pedestrian crossing that was installed near Westgate Shopping Centre, I still think that a pedestrian bridge that crosses Ontdekkers Road would have been much safer, for pedestrians and motorists.

In the evening you cannot see it because the street lights aren’t working; early mornings are similar. I am travelling along that road daily. In the mornings at around 5.50am and at night at around 6.30pm, depending on traffic.

Despite the pedestrian crossing, pedestrians just run across the road as per usual. I predict numerous accidents at that crossing. Pedestrians always will interrupt traffic flow and some motorists might end up with manslaughter charges against them. The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) should build a pedestrian bridge and block off the paving with fences so that people will be forced to use it.

JMPD also should be doing something about the taxis halting there in the morning, as taxis are stopping in the left-hand lane without any notice or signals. They pick up passengers there.

I am one of the many frustrated motorists on that road. Unfortunately our hands are cut off because taxis and pedestrians are allowed to do as they please, when they please and how they please.
