School comes together for pad drive

Curro Wilgeheuwel collects vital sanitary pads for the community of Claremont.

Curro Wilgeheuwel High School demonstrated its commitment to community service by hosting a successful sanitary drive in September.

The school collected a substantial donation of sanitary pads, which were handed over to Clr Zone Hughes, a renowned businessman and Mr SA finalist, Nico Oberholzer.

Hughes, who has been actively involved in various philanthropic initiatives, partnered with Curro to facilitate the donation. The sanitary pads will be distributed to Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen, a local organisation that provides essential services to the community of Claremont.

The sanitary drive aimed to address the pressing issue of menstrual poverty, which affects many young girls in underprivileged communities. By providing access to sanitary pads, the initiative seeks to promote dignity, hygiene, and equality.

“We are proud of our learners for embracing this worthy cause. Their generosity will make a tangible difference in the lives of Claremont’s young girls,” said Curro marketing director Vonda Kahn.

Hughes expressed her gratitude to the school for their generosity in being a beacon of hope for the community and youth.

“I commend the students and staff for their compassion and commitment to social responsibility. Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen will distribute the sanitary pads to those in need, ensuring that the donation reaches the intended beneficiaries,” she added.
