Ridgevale Primary celebrates Women’s Month with kindness

Women of the Wings of Inspiration branch receive goodie bags in celebration of Women's Month.

In celebration of Women’s Month, the Ridgevale Primary School committee embarked on a thoughtful initiative to make a difference for the women in their community.

The committee came together on August 21 to donate 14 gift bags to the women of Wings of Inspiration, which is a local organisation that takes in homeless women (and their children) who have had to endure neglect, abuse and trauma. They also take in women who have lost their jobs, are struggling to make ends meet, and have lost all hope. As well as young mothers who are homeless and are looking to kickstart their lives for the sake of their children.

The gift bags were lovingly prepared by the committee, who filled them with essential items such as perfumes, vouchers, dignity packs and sweet treats. Each bag was carefully crafted to bring a smile to the face of its recipient.

The goodies were funded by the school’s community council, and a few sponsors, such as Tebogo Macheke from Femme Hygiene, Pick n Pay Wilro Park, and a dedicated parent from the school, Pertunia Sibanyoni, contributed towards the success of this project.

According to the co-ordinator of the school’s community council, Laveshnee Chetty, they embarked on this initiative to show their support, encouragement and care to the women of Wings of Inspiration.

“We are very touched by what they are doing, and we want to show others that it is important to acknowledge these women. They have been through a lot, and we want to teach our learners as well that we all have to help not only in our school but the greater community as well,” she said.
