Three learners from Allen Glen High School recently participated in the Nkosi Albert Luthuli History Competition hosted at the Albertina Sisulu Centre in Orlando West, Soweto.

The annual competition is open to teachers and learners from grades eight to 11 and aims to increase history by encouraging scholars throughout South Africa to engage with their shared history.

The event, which featured schools from the Johannesburg West District, comprised categories such as poetry, storytelling, research and oral presentation. Allen Glen High School learners Onalenna Mnyanda (Grade 10), Ronewa Mulaudzi (Grade Eight), and Zethembiso Hlongwane (Grade Eight8) demonstrated outstanding talent, securing top positions in their respective categories.

Onalenna and Ronewa both achieved first place in research and oral presentation, while Zethembiso took second place in poetry.

“These remarkable learners have qualified for the provincial round, scheduled for August, and are working diligently to prepare. Their achievements have exceeded expectations, and the school is incredibly proud of their accomplishments,” says acting deputy principal Marnus Grobbelaar.
