Curro Wilgeheuwel comes out on top in recycle challenge

Christmas trees with a twist ensured a jolly festive season for all.

Kwena Square and local schools recently joined hands in an attempt to promote sustainability awareness among the youth.

At the end of last year, the Tree-mendous Recycle Challenge was introduced and learners from Crawford International Ruimsig, Curro Wilgeheuwel and Mellow Oaks Academy were eager to participate.

The challenge was to make eco-friendly Christmas trees from upcycled materials, and the learners were not scared to let the creative juices flow.

The challenge was not only for the learners though, and actively engaged the community as well.
Holly Nemathithi from Mall Marketing said, “Community members were invited to vote for their favourite eco-friendly Christmas trees. Shoppers participated in the voting process through unique QR codes placed at each tree.”

She added, “The results were remarkable, with a total of 293 votes cast. The standout victors were Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, and their efforts were rewarded with prizes from Bidvest Waltons and Decathlon Little Falls.”

After the competition ended, the trees did not go to waste and found a new purpose as they were donated to the Wings of Inspiration Care Centre, where they ensured everyone had a great festive season.
