Die Ruiter announces head prefects

Laerskool Die Ruiter Primary has announced their head prefects for 2024.

Laerskool Die Ruiter Primary has appointed their head prefects for 2024 on February 19.

According to the school’s media officer, Suzette Louw, the prefects were appointed last year already, but the identification of the head prefect could only be decided after participation in a leadership camp.

“We were unable to hold the leadership camp last year though, so our prefects attended the camp during January,” she says. “From this camp, four leaders emerged that are perfectly suited to lead the school this year.”

The 2024 head prefects are Lebohang Hlatshwayo (head boy), and Jaynique Martin (head girl). Lebogang Ndaba was selected as the deputy head boy, and Tyra Maduna, as the deputy head girl.

According to Lebohang, it is a huge privilege to be chosen as head boy. “I can’t say I was completely shocked,” he says. “This is what I have been aiming for, but you don’t know until it is official. I plan to lead by example and make sure that, as a school, we are strong and united.”

Jaynique says that she had worked hard and also had a feeling that she would be chosen. “I see it as an honour to be able to lead, and for this ability to be recognised. I plan to continue to work hard to set an example for my classmates, as well as younger learners in the school.”

Lebogang says that being deputy head boy places him in the ideal position to make a positive difference at the school and within his community, while deputy head girl Tyra, for who being elected as a head prefect has always been a goal, says that she intends to encourage younger learners, showing them that dreams do come true if you work at it.”
