Eager and cheerful to start their first day of school

Gr 1s had an orientation day before the school year started to adapt and meet classmates.

With the formal start of the new school year, the Grade Ones are starting their first day of school with more big smiles than tears. Their parents were a little less worried about how their ecstatic little ones would adjust to the new school atmosphere as the doors of learning opened for them.

The purpose of orientation, which is held one day before the start of the school year at schools like Canterbury Preparatory School, is to familiarise the Grade Ones with their peers and help them get ready for the academic year. For the young guppies, who are so excited to begin learning and playing with their new classmates, it is undoubtedly a joyous moment.

When parents dropped off their children, they were thrilled to have the chance to sit down with the teachers and get a brief overview of what to expect throughout the school year. For the Grade Ones, reading instruction is the main priority, and they can’t wait to get started. It was impressive to see how the entire class was able to write their names and ages on their whiteboard without any assistance from their teacher. Their teachers are also excited to teach them more about social skills and how to pronounce letters and words and write since they are already familiar with writing their own names.

“We have Kehumile, a five-year-old child who is exceptionally intelligent, as a new Grade One in our class. The remaining Grade One learners were already with us in Grade R the year before,” said Mrs Wilcock, one of the teachers.

They anticipate that this year will be full of learning as well as positive and more fun because of their small group size, which makes it much easier to attend to every learner.
