This is how we celebrate Christmas Day

Learners share their Christmas Day celebrations with the Roodepoort Record.

The Roodepoort Record visited Roodepoort Primary and chatted with some of their learners on how they celebrate Christmas.

This is what they had to say:

• Orefile Mathye: “As we all know, Christmas is a day when families come together to enjoy a homemade feast and discuss their new year’s resolutions and life goals for the new year. Christmas is a day where we can celebrate Jesus’ life in a way of worshipping Him as our Saviour. Some people think Christmas is all about receiving presents, but I would rather be with my family on Christmas day and enjoy a homemade meal than receive the world’s most expensive present. So, during Christmas, me and my family gather to have a nice feast while chatting/ discussing our new year’s resolutions, while gifting each other with the things we have wanted or needed for the whole year.”

• Mikesh Otto: “As we all know, Christmas is when we celebrate Jesus’ birthday. All of our families come together to celebrate; we do not only celebrate our love for Jesus, but w also celebrate the progress we have made as a family throughout the year. I always help my parents cook the food but sometimes I bake the cupcakes. On Christmas, we spend time with our family and friends.”

• Vhuthuhawe Mudzunga: “I start my Christmas day celebrations by going to church to celebrate Jesus’ birthday together with my family and cousins. Then we go back home to cook and play and sometimes we go out on Christmas day or the following day. After Christmas, we go out to swim or to a park to enjoy ourselves. We end the day by praying and thanking the Lord for all he has done for us throughout the year.”
