The King’s School West Rand principal’s Christmas wishes to Roodepoort community

May the Roodepoort community be blessed with an enjoyable Christmas season.

• Ken Langley, the principal of The King’s School West Rand, writes:

It’s that time of the year when all the major retailers bring out their Christmas decorations in all their stores. Even though there is a strong commercial basis for the tinsel and festive lights, I am struck by the observation that there still seems to be an increase in joy among people at this time of year.

Just before the ‘original’ Christmas, an angel appeared to shepherds and announced, “Fear not, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” The Bible says those shepherds were ‘terrified’ to be confronted by an angel, but the message turned out to be not one of fear, but one of ‘great joy’. Today still, the message of great joy defies all the fear that fills our daily news feeds.

It is a message of ‘good news’ that Jesus’ birth reflects God’s desire to live with people as Immanuel, God with us. This good news is the Gospel that Jesus came to live on earth and save people by dying on the cross in their place.

It’s at this time every year that the good news of great joy demands a response from ‘all people’, that we either have an attitude of gratitude for the incredible gift we have received or that we take the step to accept this gift that is still offered today.

From the community of The King’s School West Rand, I wish all Northsiders great joy this Christmas, may you experience the gift of life in abundance that Jesus offers to all people..
