Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel’s young leaders send a Freedom Day message

Freedom Day is a celebration of South Africa's first opportunity to vote as one.

Curro Academy Wilgehuewel’s prefect body sends a collective Freedom Day message of inspiration:

“Freedom Day in South Africa marks the historic day when the nation was finally able to break free from the shackles of Apartheid and embrace democracy.

As the current school leaders of Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, this day represents a crucial moment in our nation’s history. It is a powerful reminder of the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before us.

As young leaders in a diverse and dynamic country, we understand the importance of celebrating and upholding the principles of freedom, equality, and justice. We recognise that our role as leaders is to keep these values and actively work towards a future where all South Africans can live free from prejudice and discrimination.

Freedom Day is an opportunity to reflect on the progress and renew our commitment to building a better South Africa. It is a day to honour the legacy of those who fought for freedom and recommit to the struggle for a more just and equitable society.

As we look toward the future, we are inspired by the incredible resilience and determination of our fellow South Africans. We believe we can overcome obstacles and build a brighter future for all by working together and embracing diversity.

In the words of Nelson Mandela, ‘Freedom cannot be achieved unless the women and men of South Africa are fully emancipated from all forms of oppression’.

For the school leaders of Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, this is not just a quote but a guiding principle we carry daily. We are proud to be part of a new generation of South Africans committed to building a truly free, equal, and just society.”
