A fire broke out at the Panorama Pikitup site on October 3, prompting a swift response from the City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team.
EMS received a call at 10:44 and according to spokesperson Nana Radebe, upon arrival, workers found a portion of the dumping site engulfed in flames.
Fortunately, the unit was able to extinguish the rubbish fire in just 35 minutes, preventing further damage.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, as investigations were unable to pinpoint how the fire started.
The rapid response from the EMS, however, ensured that the situation was brought under control quickly, minimising potential risks to nearby residents and businesses.
