Community unites for World Clean Up Day

Leroy Merlin partners with LIFCO and various security companies for a successful clean-up operation.

In celebration of World Clean Up Day, Leroy Merlin Little Falls joined forces with the Little Falls and Strubens Valley Residential Community (LIFCO) and various security companies to tackle litter and make their neighbourhood look beautiful again.

On September 20, the team put on their protective gear and rolled up their sleeves to give their neighbourhood a much-needed spring clean despite the cold weather. According to LIFCO deputy chair Helene de Villiers, the collaborative effort was initiated by Leroy Merlin to target the Hendrik Potgieter and Fredenharry Road entrances to transform them into a more pristine and welcoming space.

Security companies such as BCI Security, Beagle Watch Armed Response, EC Security and West Rand Reaction Unit played a dual role, ensuring safety while also participating in the clean-up. Beagle Watch’s Environmental Team took on the daunting task of clearing the stagnant stormwater drain and collecting over 20 bags of rubbish.

The notorious area behind the mini-substation (MSS) on Almond Rock Avenue was also revitalised from rubbish behind the MSS, as well as an abandoned wheelchair found among the mess.

“This clean-up was very productive, and we are so thankful to Leroy Merlin for asking LIFCO to collaborate in this amazing initiative. The plan is to make our neighbourhoods look beautiful again so we can take pride in where our residents live and avoid environmental issues,” Helene said.
