Hero’s work recognised

Averille Botha from Multi Charities is nominated for a prestigious award and you can help her win.

Founder and owner of Multi Charities in the West Rand, Averille Botha, has been nominated for a prestigious community service award by the South African Heroes Awards 2024.

Averille formed Multi Charities about 30 years ago, and she has over the years been a beacon of hope for the less fortunate in the greater West Rand community.

The idea of Multi Charities was to form a collaborative platform where various charitable organisations come together to support one another in their donation efforts. They also focus on uplifting each other to maximise their impact.

Averille plays a crucial role in raising funds for these charities, ensuring that their important work can continue to make a difference in the community.

“When I started Multi Charities, I saw charities around the West Rand competing instead of working with each other. The aim was to bring them together to help one another.

“I work with charities in Krugersdorp, Roodepoort, Delarey, Randburg and even Dobsonville. These charities focus on cancer advocacy, rehabilitation, hospice, feeding schemes, victim support, early childhood developments and champions for change, just to name a few.

“Growing up, I have always been a nurturer and a mother to people around me. I always had it in me to stretch my hands and help someone else,” shared Averille.

Averille also shared with the Roodepoort Record that this is not the first time her work has been acknowledged.

She says 25 years ago she received a Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Club of Roodepoort Central.

“I feel a sense of pride to be nominated for this award. To me it means a lot that at 82 years my work is being acknowledged and that people can see and release the huge impact they can have by simply being kind,” concluded Averille.
