Policewoman honored for exceptional community service

Her effort in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community is remarkable.

Constable Ntombi Mosehla who works at Honeydew Police Station’s detective unit has been rewarded for her extraordinary dedication and service to the community, receiving the renowned Goodwill Shield Award.

This award, granted to officers with exceptional commitment to public welfare, recognises Ntombi’s efforts to foster relationships between law enforcement and people.

The Honeydew Community Police Forum members surprised Ntombi and handed over the shield to her during the morning briefing at her workplace, in front of her colleagues. According to Honeydew CPF’s public relations officer Michael Steyn, Ntombi was assigned to a murder case, which was reported on May 13, 2022. The victim succumbed to her wounds after boiling water was poured over her by another woman who suspected that the victim had an affair with her boyfriend behind her back.

“Hard work and dedication from Ntombi led to the arrest of the suspect. Her efforts in this case led to the suspect receiving a 15-year sentence and also being declared unfit to possess a firearm. We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to close off Women’s Month, and that is to award her,” shares Michael.

“It wasn’t easy to link the suspect as the eyewitnesses refused to testify but I had to ensure that justice prevailed, so I dug deeper. After so much stress and endless efforts, I managed to link the suspect. Receiving the Goodwill Shield award was an assurance that indeed we are making a difference in the community. It gave me hope that faith is restored in our community members.

“I wish the members of our community would keep in mind that the power of eliminating criminals from the community rests in their hands, if you see something say something. In most cases, we struggle to arrest and convict suspects due to insufficient evidence simply because they don’t want to associate themselves with the police even after witnessing a horrific incident a person will carry on as if nothing happened,” Ntombi expresses in a plea to the community members to get involved in fighting crime.

As the recipient of the Goodwill Shield Award, Ntombi continues to serve as a beacon of hope and positive change, proving that policing is much more than just enforcing laws; it’s about making a lasting difference.
