Lions International leader praises South African club

Lions International leader Dr Patti Hill visits the Lions Club Wilro Park to learn about their impactful community service projects.

Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) chairperson Dr Patti Hill recently visited South Africa to connect with the Lions Club Wilro Park and explore the incredible community service projects they undertake.

Her visit began in Cape Town where she spent time with Lions from the Cape Town Lions Clubs before heading to Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden on August 17.

Patti met with the Global Action Team at the Lions Club of Wilro Park, followed by a lunch and a visit to the 2017 Lions Legacy Project, the Sensory Garden planted at the Botanical Garden. This remarkable garden, designed for the blind, features guiding ropes, tactile stepping stones, and description boards in both print and Braille.

The Roodepoort Northsider spoke to Patti to gain her insight into the growth of the club and the development of the sensory garden.

“The Lions Club in South Africa is rapidly growing, and it is amazing to experience the support. The sensory garden is a true reflection of what the Lions Club is about, which is serving their communities.

“The Lions have created a truly unique and impactful project that improves the lives of the visually impaired. I am proud to see how our LCIF has supported this project, and I look forward to seeing its continued success,” she added.

After an insightful session, she attended a meet-and-greet cocktail party, where she addressed the Lions and discussed the LCIF, highlighting its mission to support the Lions’ humanitarian service projects and grants globally.
