Autism centre seeks visitors to enrich young minds

Inspirando Academy invites members of the community to visit their autism-based centre.

Inspirando Academy, which is an autism-based centre in St Luke’s Methodist Church, has over the past four years committed itself to ensuring that children with autism thrive in society.

Founded by Allison Tumbev, this school has about 18 children and would like to extend an invitation to members of the community and organisations to engage and visit their learners, to enrich their lives and provide a diverse learning environment.

Allison says the centre is seeking guest speakers to share basic life skills and experiences, as well as members of the community to visit with their trained animals for therapy and interactive sessions.

“We want our children to be more involved with the community and know what is going on around them.

“Additionally, we have also been looking for representatives from the fire department to encourage and provide fire safety demonstrations to our learners.

“By opening this door, we are hoping to promote social skills, emotional growth, and inclusivity among our learners,” says Allison.

From the parents’ perspective, they would also like psychiatrists and psychologists who would give a talk to them and educate them about autism.

“In some cultures, autism is not recognised and you would find kids being made fun of and not being put in the correct school. These children are not differently enabled, but they are autistic with abilities.”

The centre offers children with specialised integration programs including occupational therapy and individual sessions. For more information, contact Allison on 063 790 6085.
