Duo dances to victory

Local dancers dazzle and impress judges at the SADTA Gauteng Championships.

Grace and poise were the highlights at the South African Dance Teachers’ Association (SADTA) Gauteng Provincial Championships hosted at Woodlands International College in July.

SADTA is a non-profit organisation dedicated to qualifying teachers and enhancing dance teaching skills. With over 80 years of experience in providing training for dance teachers and examiners, SADTA has established itself as a beacon of quality in the dance community.

Rodney Kruger and Laura Crewe danced their way to gold in the ballroom dance category, leaving their audience in awe of their performance. The talented twosome impressed judges with their flawless performances in the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Quickstep, securing the top spot on the podium.

Rodney shared his experience with the Roodepoort Northsider on this wonderful achievement.

“The experience is a magic moment. After six months of practice in all four dances, suddenly it’s time. The hall was cold as a fridge, and we had to work hard to warm up in the practice area.

“Then they call your number, and there is no turning back. Walking onto the dance floor with the four other competing couples and a few hundred people watching is very exciting and also nerve-racking.

“Each dance is over quickly and the next beginning. Then waiting for the judges’ results is the worst. But to hear your number called out for first place is an unforgettable event. Standing on the winners’ podium for photos is a memory that will last forever,” he said.

As they bask in the glory of their golden achievement, they inspire others to strive for excellence in the world of ballroom dance.
