Roodepoort police reach out to community

Elderly residents of the Mhlangeni informal settlement in Witpoortjie received some much-needed support from the Roodepoort police on Mandela Day.

A large convoy set out from the Roodepoort Police Station on Thursday, July 18, to spend Mandela Day in support of less fortunate residents in the Mhlangeni informal settlement along Progress Road in Witpoortjie.

According to Captain Juanita Yorke from the corporate communications office of the station, officers in collaboration with the Roodepoort Community Policing Forum (CPF) the Youth Crime Prevention Desk, the Department of Community Safety, Gauteng Traffic Department, community patrollers, and local ward councillors spent the day in service of the local community.

“We are collectively passionate about making a real difference in the community,” says Yorke, who adds that as part of their Mandela Day service, they applied a much-needed fresh coat of paint to the local skills centre.
