Blankets galore for #CaxtonCares

The #CaxtonCares Blanket Drive saw recipients receiving a warm winter blanket.

The congregation of the FullFlame Life Church in Ruimsig has opened their hearts once again with another massive donation to the #CaxtonCares Blanket Drive.

According to community outreach co-ordinator Thato Phiri, their church wants to be part of the solution for local communities in need, and will jump at the chance to make a positive contribution and bless people in need in any way they can.

“I have to thank our congregation members for their wholehearted support of this project,” says Thato.

“We put a call out for blanket donations, and we were pleasantly surprised by the response from our congregation. Within less than a month, we had a whole room stacked full of blankets to contribute.

“We aim to make a positive contribution to our local communities and the #CaxtonCares initiative fits right in with what we as a congregation are trying to achieve.”

On July 17, the editorial team of the Roodepoort Record and Roodepoort Northsider, accompanied by Thato Phiri and Clint Still from the church, took to the streets of Roodepoort to distribute blankets to charitable organisations.

The first delivery was done to the Green Hand workers from the Toolbox Hub, who are deployed throughout the Northern suburbs of Roodepoort, cleaning up open spaces and greenbelts and cutting down and removing invasive tree species.

The next stop was the Baby Moses Children’s Sanctuary where Christo de Klerk and his staff have been making a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of children over the years.

From there, the team headed to Just in Time Baby Sanctuary in Discovery, where owner Georgina Caetano was very grateful for the brand-new blankets for the children in her care.

The last stop for the day was the Antoinette Street Old Age Home in Claremont, where the team handed over blankets to the appreciative elderly residents.

At every stop along the way, Clint blessed the occasion with a heartfelt prayer, blessing both the proceedings and the recipients of the much-needed blankets.
