Congregation opens their hearts

The Caxton Cares Blanket Drive received a huge boost from a local church congregation.

The FullFlame Life Church in Ruimsig stepped up its community outreach in a big way on Tuesday, June 25, when they made a massive donation toward the Caxton Local Newspapers’ Caxton Cares Blanket Drive.

The blanket drive, run collectively by the four newspapers in the Caxton West Rand stable, namely Roodepoort Northsider, Roodepoort Record, Krugersdorp News, and Randfontein Herald, was the brainchild of the branch’s digital content creator, Michelle van Wyk.

The initiative marks a return to the newspaper group’s regular charitable contributions, which fell by the wayside during the outbreak of Covid.

According to FullFlame Church community outreach co-ordinator, Thato Phiri, the church and its congregants are proud to be in a position to do something that has the potential to make a big difference in the community.

“How many children, elderly, and other less-fortunate people have to suffer through the icy cold of winter, simply because they do not have the means to keep warm?

“As a church community, we are in the privileged position to be able to offer a helping hand. Our congregation jumped at the chance and we are very happy with the outcome thus far, and we are sure there are many more to follow.”

The Caxton Cares initiative aims to provide blankets to local charitable organisations where a dire need exists.

These organisations include children’s homes, baby sanctuaries, old age homes, and animal shelters. A list of beneficiaries of the Caxton Cares Blanket Drive will be concluded at the end of the drive, once a final tally of blankets has been done.
