CPF awards police officers

Swift action by officers of the Honeydew police resulted in an illegal firearm being removed from the streets.

The Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) has announced the winners of the Goodwill Shield for April.

The Goodwill Shield is a monthly award given to police officers in recognition of outstanding service and achievements for the month.

“Our award for April once again goes to an entire team of police officers from the Honeydew Police Station,” says CPF public relations officer Michael Steyn.

“This month, the officers of Visible Policing [Vispol] team 2 are being awarded for removing an illegal firearm from the streets.”

Steyn says that police officers received information on March 20 that a man driving an Audi, had an illegal firearm in his possession.

Shortly after receiving this information, police officers spotted the vehicle in question driving on Marina Street in Zandspruit.

“Officers managed to pull the vehicle over and, with permission of the driver, searched the vehicle. They discovered a firearm in a red firearm case under the driver’s seat.”

Steyn adds that upon questioning the suspect, he claimed that the firearm had belonged to his late brother.

“Police escorted the man to his place of residence, but he was unable to produce a firearm license. He was taken to Honeydew Police Station and detained for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The action of these officers resulted in the removal of another illegal firearm from the streets,” he concludes.
