Youth Day well spent

Heritage of Faith Mission worship centre hosts a youth service to celebrate Youth Day.

June 16 is one of the most commemorated holidays nationwide and is a reminder of the young people of 1976 who drove change not only for themselves but for the youth of today.

This year marks the 48th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising, and on June 15, the Heritage of Faith Mission Church in Florida invited all young people in their branches to have a mini diary section to chat about the Gospel of God and encourage each other while remembering those who impacted change.

“We got together specifically to recognise and commemorate the lives of so many young people who were sacrificed for the freedom of South Africa. We came together under a spiritual and biblical approach, and as a church, we believe that young people can also play a role and follow in the footsteps of Jesus by serving the community and healing people who face many traumas like gender-based violence,” said senior pastor of the church, Earl Morrison.

About 100 young people from Discovery, East Rand, Boksburg, Eikenhof and other areas in Roodepoort came together on this historical day to hear a message that was shared by one of the guest speakers Pastor Ayoob Toffie from Juda Ministries.

Ayoob spoke about his journey as a prisoner and how God saved him.

“We want to inspire through the word of God and our lives as leaders so that youngsters can understand that they can only bring the new revival through Jesus and their lives will be saved,” he said.

After the service, the youth had lunch and then went to Soweto, where they preached the word of God to the community and tackled critical issues like drug addiction and GBV.
